Cops “Pass the Hat”
Ever since anyone can remember the Police Officers in the Wickenburg area would “pass the hat” among themselves to buy children in needy families toys, games, and gifts during the holiday season.
Cops Who Care is Born
In 1982 a group of these officers decided that they wanted to do more, so they solicited help from the community just two weeks before Christmas.
In just those two short weeks, they received enough money to buy Christmas presents for over 250 needy children.
The following year, these officers from the
- Wickenburg Police Department
- Arizona Department of Public Safety
- Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office
- Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office
formed a public service organization called Cops Who Care.
