Kids don’t care how much you know, they want to know how much you care.

Over 30 years ago, the tradition started with a group of Wickenburg area police officers who passed the hat to buy a needy child a Christmas gift. This tradition has grown into an organization called Cops Who Care.

The core of the organization is still made up of active and retired officers from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, Arizona Highway Patrol, Wickenburg Police Department, Wickenburg Fire Department, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, Maricopa County Probation, the Surprise Police Department and other volunteers from all walks of life.

What started as a way of getting a few kids a Christmas gift or a trip to the lake for a day has grown into an Easter Egg Hunt, a game time at the 4th of July Fireworks, program funding for drug awareness, school supplies, sports events, teen dances and events … and a very special Christmas time for some kids who might not have much of a Christmas.

Over 900 area kids are on the Cops Who Care list this Christmas season! You can help by volunteering your time or making a small cash donation.
